Gord Stokes was born in 1953 in St. Thomas, Ontario Canada.
While very young, his father was transferred overseas with
the Canadian Air Force. It was here that Gord was first
impressed with traditional European art and culture.
Even though he was very young, these years had a tremendous
influence on him. With  encouragement from his mother,
art was always part of Gord's growth and education.

Gord grew up in Ottawa, Ontario, and graduated from high school
in Surrey, British Columbia on a commercial arts program.
He has experience in painting with oils, acrylics and some
water color, as well as ceramics and woodworking.

At the age of twenty-two, Gord converted to the Roman Catholic
faith and his art work reflects his religious convictions.
Since 1984 Gord has made his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba with
his wife Carole, and their two daughters Marie and Julia.

Over the years, Gord has been repairing and painting statues
and crucifixes for churches and friends. He has developed
his own unique style for pencil and charcoal portraits and
does professional quality digital photo compositions.
Above all, Gord finds his greatest pleasure in painting.
It is here that his artistic talent is fully expressed.

In Gord's own words:

"Artistic talent is a gift from God. In a unique way, the artist
can share in Gods creative power. It is truly humbling to realize
that one possesses such a gift through no merit of their own.
Also, that some day, an accounting must be made. I suppose it's
not unlike raising children in that respect. Deo Gratias."
